Currently under construction in Kirkland, Washington, Luumi Play Cafe is a children's play space and cafe designed to spark exploration and playfulness while fostering inclusion and community. Rooted in the idea that a play space should welcome caregivers as warmly as it welcomes children, the design pairs an open, multi-level play structure with a cafe counter and lounge seating that looks directly onto the action. A village of pitched-roof playhouses with arched openings anchors the main hall, connected by climbing platforms, slides, and a generous ball pit, all set against a calm palette of cream, blonde wood, and soft pastel accents. For La Union Studio, the project is an opportunity to design for a wide age range at once, balancing energetic play with quiet corners and gentle materials so families can spend unhurried time together.
