Located just outside Seattle's Chinatown International District, The Beacon is a creative space dedicated to producing, performing, and teaching art with an emphasis on the positive art forms of hip-hop culture. Home to Massive Monkees, it has long served the neighborhood through arts-based programming that includes a free youth after-school program, dance and music classes, and community events. Supported by the Office of Economic Development's Tenant Improvement Grant program, La Union Studio was tasked with designing a food service program for the space and creating a cohesive look and feel that celebrates The Beacon's craft, culture, and brand. The result is Fresh Cafe, a daytime cafe that extends the venue's use beyond its evening classes and opens it to youth, families, neighbors, and creatives who gather, work, and recharge over smoothies, açaí bowls, and light bites.
