SEATTLE, WA — May 8, 2025 — In celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, La Union Studio is honored to take part in ANCHOR. A New Chapter: Home, Origins, Resilience — a speaker series hosted by the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students at the University of Washington (NOMAS UW).
Our co-founder, Sergio Max Legon-Talamoni, joined a panel of AANHPI designers and professionals to share stories of identity, migration, belonging, and the evolving meaning of “home.” Rooted in heritage and driven by resilience, the event spotlighted voices that too often go unheard in design spaces.
“What does home mean when your roots span oceans, cultures, and generations?” This was the question at the heart of the discussion — one that resonates deeply with La Union’s own ethos: designing spaces that are grounded in culture, community, and storytelling.
“Participating in this panel wasn’t just about architecture — it was about reconnecting with the values that shape our lived experiences,” Sergio shared. “Design isn’t neutral. It’s a vessel for memory, a tool for empowerment, and a map to where we belong.”
As a studio, we’re proud to amplify narratives that honor the diverse identities within our profession. ANCHOR served not only as a platform for expression, but also as a call to action for more equitable and culturally responsive design practices.
We extend our gratitude to NOMAS UW for curating such a meaningful series and for championing voices that shape the future of design. And to everyone exploring what “home” means — we see you, and we’re building with you in mind.
