FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Seattle, Washington) November 15, 2023:  La Union Studio is excited to move forward with its client, Black & Tan Hall, to host a community visioning session on Saturday November 18, 2023 from 12PM - 3PM at 5608 Rainier Avenue South, Seattle WA 98118. The goal of this gathering is to bring together Black & Tan Hall’s partner-owners and community anchors to gather information and insights into the future use of the mezzanine space.

Black & Tan Hall is a cooperatively-owned business which provides a shared space dedicated to preserving arts, music and culture of the BIPOC community in the Rainier Valley and surrounding areas. In September of this year, Black & Tan Hall hosted its first public event since the building was purchased in 2021 thanks to a $1.2 million funding from the City of Seattle’s Equitable Development Initiative (EDI).

La Union Studio, owned by Sonia Lynn Abenojar and Sergio Legon-Talamoni, stepped in as Black & Tan Hall’s design partner in 2022. Last month, Black & Tan Hall passed final inspections of phase 1 of their construction.

“For those who are familiar with the journey of our friends at Black and Tan Hall, this team has been working tirelessly to make sure the necessary improvements to the building for safe occupation for the last several years,” said Abenojar. “With slow and meticulous fundraising and relationship building with funders and philanthropists, their dream is now becoming a reality. Along the way, we at La Union Studio joined forces with them to identify critical path items and help get their doors open. It’s an exciting milestone”.

As part of the community visioning session. La Union Studio along with the owners of Black & Tan Hall hope to gain more insights and practical information to help build on the design plans that best fit the future use for this space.

La Union Studio has helped us connect with people from the community that we were not in connection with before this project, which allowed more people to know Chebogz's story and legacy. They also have your back when issues rise and they do it in a way that doesn't scare the clients. They care!
